Did you ever wonder where did the diamond on your ring come from or how old it could be ?
While it could be recently discovered as a gemstone and cut to it’s actual shape , the diamond gem itself could be as young as 630 million years or as old as 3.3 Billion years.
Diamonds were formed , or could be still forming somewhere in between 140 – 190 Km beneath the surface of the earth , under conditions of extreme pressure in between 45.000 – 60.000 bar ( our atmospheric pressure is 1 bar ) and temperatures of 900-1300 degrees Celsius .
In the time frame of 20 million and 2.5 billion years ago, rocks from deep beneath the earth surface rose to the surface in violent explosions bringing with them the diamond gemstones they could collect on the way , rising through some cracks in the earth surface.
So , how old is your diamond ?
The youngest diamond found till now is estimated to have been formed 628 million years ago !
