Diamonds are considered to be the toughest gemstones and are on top of Mohs Scale with a rating of 10. However , if you hit a diamond with a hammer from a certain angle you will be able to shatter it into pieces . Also, there are no guarantees that your diamond will not be scratched while it comes into contact with different objects .
Another sensitive point of diamonds is heat. While the melting point of gold is over 1000 degrees Celsius, at a temperature of just over 760 degrees Celsius ( 1400 Fahrenheit ) a diamond will evaporate into thin air. The reason for this is the oxidation of Carbon ( Diamond are made of the element Carbon ) by forming CO2 .

On the other hand, if you take good care of your diamond jewelry it will passe from generation to generation forever.
